I am building some balloon columns for a party on the weekend and this is my first attempt of doing multiple projects for 1 party...so I'm a bit nervous I need x-tra time to inflate the balloons and put the designs together. How far in advance can I inflate the balloons and/or build the design? The party is inside.

Thanks for your help and thanks for a great resource to get fabulous tips!!

ANSWER: Tips for Building a Balloon Column in Advance

Hi Natalie,

Thank you for your kind words about BloonsUp.🙂

I assume you are talking about air-filled columns, right?

You can blow up the balloons several days in advance, but - and this is extremely important - you have to store them in large plastic bags that close tightly around the balloons.

You can either use large trash bags or purchase balloon transport and storage bags.

If you leave the inflated balloons exposed to air (even indoors), they will oxidize and won't look good anymore.

You may also find this extra tips for keeping balloons shiny helpful.

Good luck with the party!

Storing balloons

From reading the comments I understand that you can blow up the balloons in advance. Can I store all the balloons together in a black plastics bag and then set up the arch the day of the party? Or does rack balloon have to be wrapped individually?

Answer for Nicole: Plastic Wrap
by: Margit

Hi Nicole,

Yes, plastic wrap should work fine too. The largest sizes of plastic wrap I've seen was 24 inches (60 cm) wide.

Depending on how many balloons you have to wrap, you'd need quite a bit of cellophane.

Would plastic wrap (cellophane) work just as good as a large bag?

Large Plastic Bags and Balloon Shine
by: Margit

Hi Tracy,

Check out these large balloon transport and storage bags. They are specifically designed for balloons.

They measure about 98.4 x 59.1 inches (2.5 x 1.5 meters), so could be big enough to cover a whole column.

As for the balloon shine spray:

I am sorry to hear that the product you used didn't work well.

What's usually recommended is to coat the latex balloons with a silicon compound (for example "Stay Clear", "Balloon Shine" or "Balloon Shield") and polish them with a cotton glove.

Here are more tips about how to prevent balloons from oxidation (includes links to recommended products).

Large bag and balloon spray
by: Tracy

Hi. Where can I get a big large enough to cover the whole balloon column? Is there a balloon shine spray you recommend for me to use to help with oxidation for clear balloon? I've purchased one before and it does not work well.
