I am planning to make an air filled balloon column with a mylar balloon topper... tied with a string... will a sand weight be enough for this? What are the other options?
ANSWER:
For the type and size of column you have in mind, filling at least 2 of the bottom balloons with sand should be fine as base. Alternatively, you can fill the balloons with water.
Often the balloon pros fill the top balloon (in your case the 32" mylar balloon) with helium to give the column an extra lift and make sure it stands neatly upright.
Also, this type of air-filled balloon column (without a sturdy pole and base) should only be used indoors at locations where there's little chance of someone "bumping" into them.
All the best,
Margit
