Looking for ways to make my own balloon netting for a 5 foot round balloon

by Kristen
(Midland, TX)

Hello! I am an event planner in West Texas and am a total DIY person. I see things and sit and ponder how I could reproduce something similar... I am brand new here and hoping to get quick feedback to control my anxiety. ;-)

Attempting to make a quite large hot air balloon for a wedding (in 9 days!) I have found the right balloons, they are 72" round. Five feet round. WOW! Thrilled about it but nervous about all the other details.

I am now looking for what I could use for the netting... We are wanting it to be gold and whimsical-like when finished... I'm just lost at trying to find what would work best, look most realistic and could be shipped or finished by myself in the right amount of time.

I've seen bird netting, strawberry netting, fish pond netting... Just hoping someone can point me in the right direction! And feel free to let me know of things I need to watch out for in regards to any netting you think might work. I appreciate any feedback that anyone can give to me.

Thanks a million!
Kristen

Balloon Netting
by: Margit

Hi Kristen,

72" is quite a big balloon indeed!

At Amazon I found nice ready made balloon nets, but they are only for balloons up to 3' in size...

I don't think that fishpond, strawberry or bird netting would give you the elegant look you want to create.

Perhaps these two hot air balloon model tutorials, which include how to make the balloon netting yourself, will give you some ideas...

Good luck! Would love to see a photo of your finished masterpiece.

All the best,
Margit
