How to Make an Organic Balloon Garland for a Baby Shower

Hi, I would like to replicate some of the images I see for baby showers with the background and multiple sized balloons. They seem to be stacked on each other and then curve over. What are they attached to? They are bottom heavy visually then get smaller at the top. Any idea how many it would take? I tried to attach a photo but couldn't get it to work. Thanks

The easiest way to create this type of balloon garland is with a balloon garland strip. Check out my balloon decorating strip tutorial with step-by-step instructions.

To attach the garland to the wall you'd use removable command hooks and fishing line.

Have you seen my balloon arch / garland kits review? There may be one kit that's perfect for your baby shower.

These kits usually include all the balloons you need, so you don't have to estimate this yourself.

Here's a rough guideline for calculating the number of balloons for an organic arch or garland:

For a traditional, 4 balloon cluster arch you would calculate the number of balloons depending on their size with this simple formula:

5 inch balloons = 12 per foot
9 inch balloons = 8 per foot
11 inch balloons = 6 per foot
14 inch balloons = 4 per foot
16 inch balloons = 4 per foot

An organic arch or garland however is packed much tighter than a regular arch. You also need at least 4 different sizes (5", 11", 16", 36").

And you need each size in various colors, or shades of the same color (typically 5 to 8 colors).

Balloon pros typically calculate 8 to 9 times the number of balloons (and cost) compared to a standard design.

Hope that helps. Wishing you lots of success with creating the balloon garland for your baby shower!
