Writing on Foil Balloons

by Frances

I would like to write on foil balloons but don't know how to make the lettering look professional. Is there a dvd on how to do it and where to buy the pens from?

Hi Kelly,

Mylar balloons are made of nylon fabric, a foil-like plastic made of polyester. They are often coated with a metallic finish to give them their shiny surface.

As far as I know, there's no acid in this material. In fact, you should only use acid free markers to write on foil balloons, because the acid damages mylar balloons.

Best,
Margit

How to write on foil balloons
by: Margit

Hi Frances,

Please see my answers to similar questions about letters on balloons and writing on foil balloons. You can use different kinds of markers, as long as they are acid-free. Balloon professionals recommend for example Qualatex Metallic Balloon Markers or RoseArt Metallic Markers. Balloon suppliers should have them, but also arts and crafts stores or even WalMart.

I've never heard of a DVD that teaches you how to write on foil balloons.

An alternative to writing on the mylar balloon would be to apply custom cut vinyl letters to the balloon.

Here's a link to a video that shows how to apply the letters.

There are quite a few sellers on Etsy where you can order either just the custom vinyl letters or balloons complete with the letters.

Hope that helps,
Margit
