How to start a balloon decorating business
by: Margit

Hi Frances,

I am sorry to hear that you've had no success so far with getting your balloon decorating business going. I was in a similar situation when I tried to launch a new business in Germany several years ago. From my experience the most important thing to do before you start your business is a thorough market research.

Have you seen balloon decorations in your area before (at weddings, partys, big events)? If your answer is yes, then find out how strong the competition is. Are there many professional balloon decorators (look in the yellow pages for example)?

If your answer is no, then ask yourself whether people in your area would spend money for a balloon decoration, even if it's new to them. In Germany, for example, people are not very receptive to this sort of thing.

When you've done your research and you decide to start the business, start small. Print some leaflets and hand them out in your community. Advertise in the local newspaper. Contact your town hall and find out if there is any support for business start ups. An article in the newspaper about your new business would be great publicity for you too.

I cover these tips and much more in my eCourse How to Start Your Own Balloon Decorating Business.

Best of luck to you and let us know how you are getting on.

Margit
